
CX-1 visor which SHOEI developed for the first time in the industry as a visor integrated with mechanism
without separate cover created various merits such as flush surface and one touch removing/fixing. Its original
design has been a main stream of visor design followed by many other manufacturers. Because of its
prominence of basic design we had been maintaining the basic structure of visor mechanism for a long time.
However, when we considered what SHOEI full-face model of next generation shall be, we fond it necessary to
review design including a visor mechanism from scratch for further satisfaction of customers. As a result,
brand new CW-1 visor and Q.R.S.A. (Quick Release Self Adjusting) System were born as a real innovation.
There are several factors for a position of a rotation axis for opening/closing of a visor. Securing full vision,
positional relationship between inner surface of a visor and a shell or parts, relation with a shell shape design
and relative angle of contact with a window beading for close contact have to be considered. For some of these
factors a rotational axis shall be positioned rearward while it had better be positioned forward. In order to
resolve these contradictory requirements comprehensively, we applied in Q.R.S.A. System a variable axis
mechanism where an axis is moved front and rear corresponding to opening/closing angles. This mechanism
made it possible to extend Pinlock Fog-Free Lens upward and improved close contact with a window beading
further.
A visor developed together with Q.R.S.A. Base Plate is CW-1. Both horizontal and vertical dimensions are enlarged so that it may correspond to extended vision caused by a wider eye port. A rib on an inner top of a visor eliminates step with Pinlock Fog-Free Lens and realizes rigidity of a whole visor and flush surface with a shell.
A surface of an enlarged knob for opening/closing of a visor is adjusted to a direction of visor opening for smooth handling. CW-1 is made of polycarbonate and 3-D molded as has been developed by SHOEI for a long time. Long experience and high technology for mold designing realized clear vision with minimum distortion. Almost 100% of UV ray is blocked and hard coating is applied to protect from scratch.
Substantially Extended Upper Vision of Pinlock Fog-Free Lens
New shaped Pinlock Fog-Free Lens with extended vision is designed for Q.R.S.A.+CW-1 Visor. Combination of 2 layers structure with air chamber between a visor and a lens and a special coated anti-fog lens restrains fogging and secures clear vision.
We received request to improve upper vision of Pinlock Fog-Free Lens in a riding position leaning forward from many customers for former model. In Q.R.S.A.+CW-1 Visor, we succeeded in moving top end of Pinlock Fog-Free Lens and silicone sealing out of vision by methods below.

c) Extension of Visor Upward to Position Top End of Pinlock Fog-Free Lens in New CW-1 Visor and Q.R.S.A. System Overlapping Portion of Shell and Visor. Extended clear vision enhances comfort and concentration in rain or low temperature which makes a visor easy to fog.
SHOEI’s own visor lock and pre-set lever to keep a visor in a slightly opened position are improved further in
Q.R.S.A. System for easy handling. By moving a lever downward from a standard position while a visor is fully
closed, an outer base plate slides forward and creates a slight gap between a visor and a window beading. A
proper introduction of outer air eliminates or avoids fogging. A visor is locked and a sudden opening of a visor
is avoided when a lever is moved upward.*
* A visor may be opened even if it is locked when an excessive force is applied.
